Description
These Three Duets for Two Flutes by Franz Anton Hoffmeister first appeared in 1791, published by Hoffmeister’s own Viennese publishing company. Later editions followed in Paris, London, Hamburg and Mainz.
About the Composer
Franz Anton Hoffmeister (1754-1812) was an unusually productive composer. Included in his numerous compositions are more than 350 works for flute solo and for flute in various combinations. In addition to being a composer, Hoffmeister was also known as a prominent music publisher. In that capacity, he was acquainted with composers such as Mozart, Beethoven and Pleyel.
Hoffmeister’s large output for the flute was very popular; this being clearly indicated by the many prints that were in circulation.
